Oceanside Ironman 70.3: Nutrition and Training

This was not my first triathlon, and definitely not my first endurance race, but it was my first Ironman 70.3. I knew signing up for this race last summer that I wanted to make the jump from Sprint and Olympic triathlons to the half Ironman races. At that point I had already competed in Obstacle Course Races that lasted for 24 hours, so I knew my body can take the beating. Rather than inundate you with you 10 months of training in and out of the off-season I’m going to provide a snap shot from the past six weeks of my training and nutrition.

Sports Nutrition talk Fil Am Tri Meeting

On 17 September, I had the opportunity to speak on the topic of sports nutrition at Pulse Endurance Sports in Chula Vista, Ca on behalf of the Fil Am Tri Club of San Diego. I talked briefly about periodization of training and how it relates to nutrition. Touched on the baseline of nutritional requirements and hydration, and then broke down the components of fueling and hydration before, during, and after physical activity. It was good to provide education to fellow triathletes. I look forward to more opportunities like this one.
